How to dress for the Cup (in Perth)

By Elizabeth Clarke

Next week, the Melbourne Cup will again sing the sparkling song of champagne corks popping and the roar of a crowd as the horses round the final strait.  If you aren’t in Melbourne and celebrating in Perth instead, don’t despair. There’s a sea of glittering events that make Cup Day in the west just as fabulous.

The last hurrah of the year before the festive season pings, we think it’s the perfect excuse to frock up. Dressing for a race day soiree is no horseplay -  there are always hurdles to jump, if you’ll excuse the pun.

Here are three of the best Cup events in Perth and some ideas on what to wear.

Mood: Could there be a more relaxed spot to cheer on a winner? Gaze at the ocean, enjoy seriously lovely sips, and dive into their famous ‘Just Feed Me’ menu.

Details: Darn - sold out! Lucky enough to snag a ticket? Bon Appetit as you indulge in that sumptuous four course meal, bubbles, runway show, oh, and of course, the race… tally-ho!

Wear: Take inspiration from the surrounding yellow striped umbrellas and black and white geometric cushions. Think simple, understated and impact-making. A dress feels just right, and when the afternoon sea breeze sets in, respond with a jacket or longline cardi.

Mood: Your favourite neighbourhood hang demands glamour today. Pair your finest with sparkling, grazing boards and canapes – giddy-up!

Details: Yes - tickets are still available! Snatch one up and enjoy flowing Idée Fixe sparkling, South Beach Spritzs and special wines selected to compliment grazing boards and Rossen and Cook’s canapes. Be there - hit up Peps here!

Wear: Who knows how much of the race you’ll see – we predict a proper party atmosphere so impress with your wit and a luxe silhouette.

Mood: Chic, swanky, and a four-course menu to-die-for. Think smoked Abrolhos Islands scallops, woodfired lamb and wide-spanning river views.

Details: The race is over to buy tickets - but there’s always next year!

Wear: Keep it simple, uncluttered, and luxe.  If you feel the need to do headwear, embrace it – and make it a fabulous hat. Black feels just right – ritzy, if you will. A little jewellery goes a long way and adds gloss to the most minimal of dresses. Remember, it’s not enough to just look chic; you should smell divine, too, so finesse your look with a whiff of Cire Trudon EDP.

You’re ready – giddy-up.
